Planet Earth, I Promise To Do Better

UGH!!! Plastic waste. I hate it. The damage caused by making plastic is worth ditching it alone but the situation only gets worse from there. From whales washing up on shore with their stomachs filled with whole plastic bottles and some, to the microplastics being found in our bloodstreams, plastic is a HUGE problem.

That’s why over the last few years I've been focusing on eliminating plastic. It hasn’t been easy and it’s still a work in progress but I keep reminding myself that the right thing to do is not usually the easy thing to do. I have to try because I don’t want to continue to be a part of this HUGE problem. I’ve compiled a list of 8 ways to eliminate plastic waste. I hope you will join me.

  1. If you are still drinking out of a plastic bottle and throwing it away (including recycling it) I’m urging you to stop. Companies producing these products are not going to stop if people keep buying them.

*Just a reminder from a previous newsletter, Coca-Cola is a TERRIBLE  company to support. Don’t give them your money so they can in turn destroy our health and the health of the planet. Nestle as well.

  1. Buy in bulk (not from Amazon) locally whenever possible.

  1. Use reusable bags when shopping. If possible, fix them when they break. You can also repurpose old t-shirts into reusable bags. If you like the print on a shirt but never wear it, turning it into a bag is a great way to use it.

  1. Bring smaller reusable bags instead of using produce bags at the grocery store and lightly stick the labels to the outside of the bag or on the produce.

  1. Switch to bars for shampoo & conditioner, body soap, dish soap. Be sure to find something that is plant-based to ensure no cruelty was involved and has the least environmental impact.

  1. Trade out bottles of laundry detergent for eco friendly Laundry sheets.

  1. Use dental floss and deodorant that come in refillable containers. There are a lot of great eco-friendly floss and deodorant options out there. You can find floss that can be thrown right into your compost.

  1. Buy products that come in jars instead of plastic.

How we treat the world is how we treat ourselves. Transforming habits can be very challenging and uncomfortable but necessary for positive change. Positive change sounds pretty good right about now.

Take care Yogi’s

“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
